Pilates and Yoga

Privates and Group Classes

I have been teaching group exercise in some form or another my whole working life. I absolutely love what I do…My great passions these days are Yoga & Pilates and I feel like it is such a privilege to have the opportunity to share my knowledge in these areas with people every day.

Teaching people how to feel better in their body is one of the great joys of life for me. My intention is to make the class accessible so that people feel comfortable and learn how to go at their own pace. An experienced student should be able to practice alongside a beginner, each taking their own path through the class. I want people to feel successful no matter what their level.

It was 20 years ago when I started teaching Pilates. Part of the journey for me was running my own Pilates studio for 4 years in the Blue Mountains when I lived there. I’m a real nature lover, I especially love mountains and over the years I have done many treks in the Himalayas. At any moment I can be found planning my next hiking or kayaking adventure.
My favourite quote…  “Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does!”

Privates and Group classes

Selected for The Royal Ballet Company’s development scheme, Nicky commenced as a junior associate aged seven, securing a place at The Royal Ballet Lower School (White Lodge). After seven successful years with The Royal Ballet School, Nicky secured a position in 1991 with The Royal Ballet Company, based at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and also performed on tour in Australia, Japan, USA, Russia, Argentina, China, Korea, Kenya and throughout Europe. During this time, she progressed to the position of Soloist, performing First Soloist and Principal roles and also guested with Irek Mukamedov’s company at The Sadlers Wells Theatre and on tour in Finland.

In 2003, Nicky was awarded a degree in Dance and Sports Psychology, and after leaving the RBC in 2005, completed the Professional Dancer’s Teaching Diploma with distinction at the RAD Headquarters, where she conducted freelance teaching and private coaching until 2011, as well as tuition at the RAD summer schools in London, Italy, Singapore and Tokyo. Nicky has also taught at the English National Ballet School summer school in London.

Nicky relocated to Sydney with her family 2011, where Nicky successfully qualified as an APMA Pilates instructor in 2012 and as a Franklin Method Level 1 teacher in 2014. She now teaches ballet and pilates at McDonald College and ED5 International, as well as teaching pilates in various studios in the Sydney Lower North Shore. Nicky was the class teacher for the RAD, IA and Halliday awards in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022, and Advanced 1 Bursary awards in Canberra in 2015 and 2022. She has also been part of the faculty team at the McDonald College Summer school. Nicky is currently training in myofascial release therapy.

Nicky’s understanding of body biomechanics and passion for dance/movement has inspired her to help others. She now combines her extensive dance knowledge and choreographic skills with her personal experience of injury and rehabilitation, alongside Pilates training, to offer clients and dancers a greater understanding of biomechanics to improve movement, strength and understanding of the body and help mitigate injury. Nicky is highly committed to working with her clients, as she provides adults and children with a greater understanding of physical movement and body potential.

Studio administration assistant Pip

Studio Assistant

Hi my name is Pip! I am part of the Admin team at Leap, I work closely with Zi and Kat to ensure everyone has a great time at the studio! I have been working at the studio since 2019. My mum introduced me to Leap as I used to do gymnastics and it was a great place for me to safely move my body and helped me recover from minor injuries. Now, I have grown out of gymnastics and found a love for fitness and food. Fitness has allowed me to challenge myself and those around me physically and mentally through trying new things and pushing myself. Fitness has introduced me to the power and importance of food and from there I have found my love for food. Leap is a space where I work but also a space where I meet new people and I challenge myself. I continue to train at Leap with my mum and  I can’t wait to start teaching here!
